Coral Reef Restoration at Bongoyo Island

Restoring Marine Life, One Coral at a Time

Bongoyo Island is home to a rich marine ecosystem, including coral reefs that support local fisheries, tourism, and biodiversity. However, these reefs have suffered severe degradation due to climate change, destructive fishing practices, and pollution. This project aims to restore 15,000 square meters (1.5 hectares) of damaged coral reefs using coral transplantation, artificial reef structures, and community engagement.

Project Objectives

Goal:
To restore and conserve the coral reef ecosystem at Bongoyo Island, promoting biodiversity, sustainable fisheries, and eco-tourism.

Specific Objectives:

  1. Restore 15,000 sqm of degraded coral reef through coral transplantation and artificial reef structures.
  2. Enhance community participation by training local fishers and youth in marine conservation.
  3. Reduce destructive fishing practices by promoting sustainable resource management.
  4. Monitor and assess coral reef recovery to ensure long-term conservation success.
